ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

Mowing, applying herbicide, cutting trees, and inspections are some of the activities that may be required for routine maintenance of the drainage system. Once the channel is properly constructed and the vegetation is under control, mowing and spraying are usually enough to maintain the channel.

The channels that have perpetual drainage easements are generally in better condition. This is because there is no delay in access to do maintenance. To acquire signatures on temporary Right-of Entry documents takes time and manpower away from maintenance work. On occasion, GDD8 is denied access to channels by property owners. Perpetual Drainage Easements are critical to an efficient and effective maintenance routine.
